VGA

VGA stands for video graphic array. It uses analog signals and it delivered 16 colors at a time. On a resolution of 640×480, VGA displayed 16 colors at a time. If the resolution was decreased to 320×200 a VGA monitor could show 256 colors at a time. VGA also pointed to the 15 pin connector.

It is an analog signal based standard. VGA was developed by IBM and it quickly became the standard of screen resolution during its time, it was first introduced in 1987 and it remained a standard till 1990s. VGA are still used today in 1080 interface or higher. There are some quality issues but they are avoided using a long and good quality cable.

SVGA

SVGA stands for super video graphic array. It is an advanced form of VGA. SVGA was created by many hardware and monitor manufacturers to have their own standard of display.

SVGA is also called ultra-video graphic array. It can display 16 million colors at a time in 800×600 resolution on a 24-inch screen. SVGA is based on video memory that is installed in each computer. Depending on the installation 256 continues colors or 16 million colors are displayed. SVGA is advanced over the years and can enforce higher standards but since each upgrade is not named individually so all other advancements after 1990s are called SVGA.
